In private practice for more than 25 years, Shapiro served on the staff of an out-patient facility for recovering addicts and their families for ten years. She still maintains her private practice and continues to treat adolescents, couples and families, including addicts who are abstinent, in recovery, and committed to a 12-Step program.
She is available for:
- Individual psychotherapy sessions in person or by phone
- Couples/Family crisis intervention
- Discussion groups on topics ranging from parenting to bereavement
- Workshops on healing through meditation and dream interpretation
Trained as a behavioral therapist, Shapiro believes that gaining insight into thoughts and feelings is only one step in the healing process. To reach the balance necessary for maximum health, that step must be, according to Shapiro, accompanied by effectively changing non-useful behaviors.
- Assume responsibility for actions taken
- Develop coping skills during and following life crises such as illness, divorce or the death of a loved one
- Get in touch with inner resources
- Become more creative and productive
- Explore and sort through feelings of anger, fear and cynicism
- Live in the present and help create the future

Patient Testimonials
Unhappiness and confusion led me to seek Linda's help. During my first session, I found her to be warm and she graciously listened to me far past the hour appointment that I had scheduled. By the end of that first session, I could tell that she understood me. I am so grateful that she has assisted me in getting to a healthier state of mind, helping me gain insight into myself and to become aware of my own behavior so that I can now start to build the life that I want for myself. During this journey and especially when I was going through a particularly intense situation Linda made herself available to me even over the phone, helping me to keep a clear mind and offering me wonderful, much needed support. Linda's compassion is genuine and helping people is her passion. She creates a safe environment where I feel comfortable enough to tell everything. Her insights and instincts are razor sharp. She can assist in getting to the core matter of a problem quickly and filter out the unimportant details. I would highly recommend Linda to anyone seeking therapy.Single, professional female
Being mathematical and quantitative by nature, I'd like to state that I have known Linda Shapiro for 31% of my life. Having met Linda at the age of 27 in a state of distress and utter chaos and now on the verge of turning 40 in a state of quasi serenity, I can unequivocally say that they have been the best 12 plus years of my life. While Linda would defer most, if not all credit to her patients; I can say with complete clarity that without Linda and her teachings, guidance, advice, warmth, love and mentoring, I would not be where I am today. My journey as the student (me) with my teacher and life coach (Linda) has provided me the opportunity to be the best person I can be (still working on that) as a loving, caring, husband and father.
Proud recovering addict, successful corporate executive, attentive family member and friend ... and, most importantly, a loving husband and devoted father.
I was referred to Linda by a friend whose relative was in treatment with her. From the moment I called her at a time when I was feeling in desperate need of help her responses to what I told her made me feel as though she knew me forever. Since my very first session, Linda showed me respect and offered me insights that let me know she knew exactly why I was suffering. She has clarified so many things from my past that I had swept under the rug, and with her help I am understanding how I was affected and why I made the choices I made until I entered therapy. Now, I am continuing to grow and change from all that she has taught me about myself. (She has also extended herself to other members of my family, as well.) I think Linda was born to help, to care unconditionally and to go out of her way to bring others through and past their pain. To me, Linda is a priceless treasure I found just in time. I'm so thankful that she is able to help me and so many others. She has definitely found her purpose in life, because she is making a big difference in the lives of so many people. I'm thankful, so thankful to her!
Working, single mother of 2 adolescent daughters.
I have known Linda since I first entered therapy 17 years ago and she was my assigned therapist at an out-patient treatment facility. I am now a sober, recovering alcoholic, active in the 12-Step Program for more than 20 years.
Throughout the many years that I have seen Linda (in the past several years, roughly once a month ), she has helped me in so many ways. She has helped me to cope with family tragedies and most of all to better understand and accept myself. She has also taught me how to help raise my step-daughter recognizing my strengths but also identifying triggers which sometimes lessen my ability to act in ways that are healthy and constructive. Today, because of working with Linda, I can honestly say that I feel I have the courage and the attitude to deal with experiences and relationships that continue to challenge me. There is nothing that I feel I can't share with Linda and gain insight and advice about. Best of all, I know that she respects the man I have become!
